How to create your own iPhone ringtone

I am creating this little tutorial to help out Marge with her experiment with ring tones :D

Note before we begin: I am using Windows XP and have the very latest version of iTunes and iPhone iOS.

Step 1: Create a folder where you want to save your ring tone file.
I have created “Ringtone” under my “My Music” folder.

Step 2: Make sure you can see the file extension of your files.
- Open Windows Explorer
- Go to Tools > Folder Options > “View” Tab > Uncheck “Hide extensions for known file types”

Step 3: Open your iTunes and make sure the song you want is loaded.
In my example here, we will be creating from Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”

Step 4: You can only create up to 30 seconds of the tune. When it is over 30 seconds, the ringtone file becomes too big and the conversion process will not work. So search the track for that 30 seconds or less that you want to capture.
- Make note of the exact “start time” and “end time” (e.g. 1:25 to 1:55)
- In “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, my favourite portion is the first 24 seconds. If you play this song, you’ll know :D

Step 5: Right-click on the song, select “Get Info”

[click photo to enlarge]

Step 6: Click the “Options” tab

Step 7: Enter the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” in the minutes:seconds format (e.g. 1:25)
- In my example, I will start at 0:00 and end at 0:24

Step 8: Click “Ok”

Step 9: Right-Click the song again and select “Create ACC Version”.

Notice this will automatically create a duplicate version of the song but only in the time frame you selected. Check the “Time” column, notice that you have the original length and the shorter length. That shorter length is the duplicate and that is your ringtone.

Step 10: Drag this ringtone from your iTunes to the folder you created for your ringtones.
- This will save an .mp3 copy of the ringtone.

Step 11: Rename the extension of this .mp3 file to .m4r

[click photo to enlarge]

In Windows when prompted during renaming, click “Yes”

Step 12: Back to your iTunes, click “Tones” on the left side menu.
- Drag the .m4r file from your folder to “Tones”.

The tone should now be added to your list of Tones.

Step 13: Plug your iPhone to your computer.

Step 14: To sync the tones, click “Tones” on the sync view, make sure the tone is checked, and hit “Apply” to start the Sync process.

[click photo to enlarge]

Step 15: When the sync is done, go to your iPhone and tap on Settings > Sounds > Ringtone
You will see the list of ringtones on top. Select the ringtone you just made and voila!

There you go. I hope this works for you Marge! Leave me a tweet or comment if you’re still having issues :)

Bruno Mars, is that you?

So this guy steps into the SkyTrain at the 22nd St. and caught my attention because he looks so much like a celebrity. Right?!

Well, this is BC so whether or not this really was Bruno Mars, who knows. It could very well be someone who looks exactly just like him on sunglasses, side view, from afar. I couldn’t help but take a zoom shot of the guy I do not know and post the photo all over the internet without his permission. TMZ is following me on Twitter, if they noticed my post, I would’ve been notified that same day. But no word so far, so I guess this photo is not really circulated enough online to reach this person – whoever he is.

And if it does reach him, I just want to offer my sincere apologies for stealing a photo of you. But you do look like Bruno Mars, and if you’re not him then perhaps you really are copying him (please – the hair and the sunglasses and the leather jacket – it’s so obvious!).

Anyhoo, you really see and meet interesting people in the public transport.

Is there such thing as:

??

Apparently there is. It’s along West 6th Avenue.

Day 106 of 366

The Vancouver Sun Run 2012.

The decision to join the Sun Run this year came after a friend of mine suggested I should give it a try, back in January when I started going back to the gym. I was told training for the Sun Run would be a good opportunity to exercise more and develop a routine, not to mention a definite weight loss in the end heheheh.

Most people train for it extensively in the months prior to the event, to be able to run the 10km straight within the least amount of time. There are classes around the lower mainland that focus on preparation for this race. Well, I do not like treadmills and indoor running, and for the record, I was never a fan of running/jogging. I would much rather box and spar. But I thought at the time, this would be different, let’s see if I can do this.

For my “training” I ran a total of 5 times, I think, once every Saturday only when the weather was nice. One block at a time so I wouldn’t kill myself. The week of the race, I got sick, so really I had no exercise for days. In short, for my first Sun Run, I had a crappy prep. Surprisingly, I was able to run the first 3Km.

Here are select photos:

Clockwise from top: Finish line at the BC Place Stadium; entering Burrard St. Bridge; English Bay; Bike lane.

Clockwise from top: Along W 6th Avenue; My bib; My official ranking and finish time; Map of the race.

I walked the rest of the 7Km. Maybe next year I will train better. The Sun Run was a very good experience nonetheless. I definitely recommend it to the locals. And if you happen to visit Vancouver in April, you might be able to catch it and join it! The 2013 Sun Run will be held on April 21st next year.

Day 103 of 366

Going to work tomorrow, armed with these.

Movie: Henry’s Crime

Photos from IMDb

I don’t know why I’m doing this to myself. I haven’t seen a new movie in a while and I chose to watch this, this is not even new! Perhaps it’s my undying fascination for Keanu. Not recommended – unless you are a desperate Keanu stalker like me, who is just that – desperate – to see another Keanu movie worth watching! I miss The Matrix days…

Day 098 of 366

Tynehead Regional Park.

The trail on the West side can be finished in 20 minutes, I found, 2.3km. I almost died though.

R.I.P. Thomas Kinkade

Our copy of one of Thomas Kinkade’s paintings:

Today I learned Mr. Kinkade died yesterday, reportedly “died in his sleep” though it is also being said that an autopsy was being ordered to further investigate the cause. Mr. Kinkade was 54.

Day 097 of 366

Holysh!t – this is the most expensive 1-time full-tank gas purchase I’ve made.

Evander

This is Evander, my friend’s adopted kitty. She is very sweet and left so many white hair on my shirt!
